Multi-factor authentication (MFA) requires a user to successfully validate at least two of three factors to authenticate. Blackbaud ID will require MFA using your password (what you use today) and a unique time-based one-time code, accessed on a secondary device. We are proactively making this change, by enforcing industry standard security measures, to help safeguard Saxe Gotha and our data.
How do I use an MFA?
While your email address and password help secure your Blackbaud ID, you can increase security with multi-factor authentication. Multi-factor authentication enables your Blackbaud ID to require a unique verification code — received on your personal device — in addition to your email address and password. You can receive verification codes:
As text messages on your mobile phone (standard messaging rates apply)
Through a mobile authenticator app. (Unlike with text messages, you can receive verification codes through a mobile authenticator app when your device is off-line or has no cellular service.)
With this extra layer of security, someone with your password still needs the verification code to access sensitive data and account information through your Blackbaud ID. When you enable multi-factor authentication, you receive:
A six-digit verification code — on your personal device — to further confirm your identity.
A 24-digit recovery code to use to access your account if you lose your mobile device or can't receive verification codes.
Enable multi-factor authentication through a mobile authenticator app (recommended)
Enter the phone number to receive verification codes when you sign in, and select Next.
Within five minutes:
Enter the verification code you receive on your device.
To not require a verification code on the same device and browser for 30 days, select Remember this browser.
Select Next.
Save the recovery code to use if you lose your mobile device, and select Done.
To quickly save your recovery code, take a picture of it with your personal device, or select copy to clipboard and paste it into a secured file.
Request a new recovery code
When you enable multi-factor authentication, you get a 24-digit recovery code to use in case you lose your mobile device or can't receive text messages. If you lose this recovery code, you can request a new one.
To confirm your identity, enter your password and select Continue.
Save the recovery code to use if you lose your mobile device, and select Got it.
Issues with multi-factor authentication?
After you increase security by enabling multi-factor authentication, you can review the Blackbaud FAQ for solutions to some common issues that you may run into.
Remember if you are having an issue with Blackbaud and want to see if this is a reported issue or maintenance issue, you can check the Blackbaud Status Page at any time. I would recommend saving it in your bookmarks if you have not already. The applications we use are Church Management, Merchant Services, and Raiser’s Edge.
Also, please note that if you are having issues that are not reflected on the Status Page, you can reach out to Blackbaud support at any time through their chat feature: Blackbaud Support Chat
Online Portal
Blackbaud Online Portal for Leadership
We have officially rolled out the Online Portal for Saxe Gotha Leadership (deacons/elders). They can access the portal by clicking "Member Login" in the upper left-hand corner of the website home page and then selecting "Blackbaud Portal." In the portal they can:
Update their name and contact information
View Small Groups
(If they are a small group leader) Take attendance, manage meetings, and message participants
Message their shepherding groups
See any payments they have made for event registrations
If they need detailed instructions on how to access and use the portal, please send them the document below:
In this video, you will see how member charts appear, how family units are built and interface, and how information is basically organized in the system.
To briefly summarize, Rosters are a list of individuals who share a particular set of traits, that would all be eligible to attend a class. (i.e. you may have a roster of 1st graders, or you may have a roster of 1st grade boys, or both). Classes are an event that is either a) only going to take place for a few days/weeks (i.e. Discovery Class, Grief Share), or b) one where you want to use child check in (i.e. nursery, elementary Sunday school, VBS)
In contrast to the aforementioned classes, Small groups are classes that are either a) on going forever (adult Sunday school classes, session, shepherding groups) or b) classes where you want the leader (who is usually a non-staff person) to take attendance (i.e. Seekers, club 45)
